Just Wondering.... [15 Aug 2006|02:28pm]

Was anyone at Otakon this year? Depending on where you live in the state, it's not too far away. My sis and I are going for the first time next year so we're starting to plan now :)

Also I wanted to know; how do most of you find out about new anime? How/where do you get so versed on it? I rent mine through Netflix but it takes a good deal of time to get through an entire series that way. I also watch some of it on CartoonNetwork/AdultSwim when I get a chance, just to watch it even if the Americanized versions often bug me. But one thing I notice when looking at Otakon photos, is that there seem to be so many characters I don't even recognize! I want to be able to know what these people are from and find out more about it.

So let me know how you keep tabs with new anime! Also, if there are any particular magazines that are really good for keeping someone like me in the know. I don't have time to spend downloading episodes and watching them on my computer all day but a magazine I could take along with me. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Hello! [11 Apr 2006|12:23pm]

[ mood | geeky ]

I recently moved to PA from CA, and it's great to find anime people here. ^_^

Name: Victoria
Age: 17
Favorite anime EVAR, OMG: Probably Yami no Matsuei (or Descendants of Darkness, or whatever you want to call it; it was nice that they translated the title correctly, though, none of this "Weiss Kreuz = KNIGHT HUNTERS" crap. I mean, really. Where are the knights?). I also really like Meine Liebe, but not a lot of people have heard of that one.
Current stuff: I just finished Samurai Champloo (like, ten minutes ago) and I liked it a lot, mostly because of Jin, and the fact that THE FIGHT SCENES WERE WELL-ANIMATED. *weeps with joy* For someone whose first anime she watched in anything even vaguely resembling a dedicated fashion was Dragonball Z... this was nice. I'm also watching Tsubasa:Reservoir Chronicle, Bleach and Kyou Kara Ma-Ou, which are adorable, well-plotted, and completely cracked-out, respectively.

Recs would be nice, for either anime or manga; I like anything by Yuki Kaori or CLAMP, and also Death Note, Shaman King and Hellsing. Supernatural and sci-fi stuff is good, too.

Also, does anyone have information about conventions in the Pennsyvlania area? I've been looking, with a staggeringly limited amount of success...

Quick update [19 Feb 2006|02:03pm]

R.O.D Read or Die and R.O.D The TV - These are a must see. They are fantastic. The animation and coloring are great and the stories are good. They nicely blend stuff from Read or Die into The TV.

Mezzo Forte and Mezzo - Definitely worth seeing, but be warned the uncut version of Mezzo Forte has 2 gratuitous sex scenes, which I don't think are really necessary. Mezzo doesn't have anything like that and the animation and coloring are also good.

I'm slowing progressing through Magic Knight Rayearth, but I just got my hands on the Chobits dvds and I'm going to rewatch that. (I had the series as fansubs before.)

I've fallen prey to peer pressure and am currently downloading FMA and the movie.

Update~ [07 Jan 2006|02:44pm]

aoi_namida
Ai Yori Aoshi - Fantastic story, fantastic characters, and the anime is pretty much the same as the manga (except for pieces here and there, it's about as good as the Fruits Basket anime following the manga.) I am on the 2nd disc of Enishi, and the 3rd disc is in the mail.

Wild Arms - The beginning sucked, but the last 3 episodes made up for it. The ending was a lot better than I thought it would be.

Angelic Layer - Definitely worth watching, good cast, and good story.

King of Bandit Jing - I think this could have been expanded to more episodes, since there isn't a linear plot through the entire series. Still good though.

Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi - WEIRD. Funny, but weird. It's from Gainax, so...yea that's all I need to say.

Last Exile - Just started, I'm on disc 2 and I already like it. The artwork is fantastic, and this has the integrated CG so it really emphasizes the non-CG, and makes everything look that much better.

Midori Days - I watched the first dvd, the other 2 are in the mail. I think the manga is better, but the story is still cute.

Prince of Tennis - I'm in the 90's range of episodes, and I'm enjoying it. It's really interesting, and I like Fuji's character.

Kyou Kara Maou - This is surprisingly good, it's got good humor to it.

Full Moon wo Sagashite - This is just too cute! Definitely a must see. I'm up to episode 5 and it's great.

That's it for now!

I just finished the Prince of Tennis series, I guess now I need a new one to obsess over. So if anyone can give me any good ideas I would appreciate it. The kind I like run along the lines of Weiss Kreuz, Yami no Matsuei, Fushigi Yuugi, Outlaw Star, Fruits Basket, Gundam Wing, and Fruits Basket. Now that I think about it, That is quite a wide variety, ne? Even though I have finished it I know I won't REALLY be able to fully dedicate to a new one, cause it still has much of my brain under control *sigh*. Also manga recs. would be nice too, but I am NOT about to list all those 'cause there are just to many.

I just finished Nurse Witch Komugi, and it's a silly parody anime/ova with no real ending.
I watched You're Under Arrest Mini-Specials, which was funny...although a lot of episodes dealt with panty thieves/peeping toms...tells ya a lot about Japan doesn't it. XD

I just acquired Chrono Crusade and Elfen Lied, which I will give my thoughts on at a future time...I have like 60 dvds to go through but I don't have the time. T_T
I'm caught up with Bleach, Black Cat, and Suzuka which are all very good. I'm still 20 episodes behind in Naruto. I have Kyou Kara Maou, Mahou Shoujotai, Tsubasa Chronicle, and You're Under Arrest season 2 still to watch that I have downloaded.

Grrl Power! - This OVA is quite good. Character design is simplistic and coloring is very good. The voices seemed to go well with the characters, and it's the first anime to seriously incorporate sign language. The main characters are so cute~!

Debutante Detective Corps - I think this is just a 30 minute OVA...and it was so-so. The 5 main characters are gorgeous but the story kinda sucks. Not much depth or development.

Magical Play - This is wicked weird and comical. Character design by Kiyohiko Azuma and directed by Hiroki Hayashi.

I have a ton left to go through from the ADV sale, plus Magic Knight Rayearth.

Full Metal Panic! was good, and now I have to see Fumoffu!

With downloaded stuff:
I am caught up with BLEACH, Suzuka, half way through Naruto, half way through Ah! My Goddess TV, a third of the way through Burst Angel, and I have Kyou Kara Maou and Mahoujin Guruguru still to watch.

such a lovely night.

I was quite pleasantly surprised to find an anime community specific to PA. So, being from PA myself, I decided to join. So, uh, hi I guess^^

I do, however, come with some fanart^^ It's from Get Backers, my fav anime/manga right now. It's Shido looking cool I guess; inspired by a picture in vol. 11 of the manga.

Rated PG I suppose, cause of some blood.

Hey I'm new to the community. Has any one been watching the Naruto series they recently started airing on Adult Swim? I've been watching the japanese version since it came out, but my cables off so I haven't been able to watch the American one. Is it any good?

I'm caught up with BLEACH, and I want the next episodes to be released.

I watched the first 10 episodes of Suzuka, and it's a really good shoujo anime.

I'm on episode 16 of Full Metal Panic! and so far I have no complaints about it.

I really like the coloring for Gunslinger Girls, although I think they could have made it 26 episodes long easily instead of 13.

Saber Marionette R was good, but it shouldn't be associated with Saber Marionette J because they're completely different aside from the same character names...which doesn't really make any sense.

I can't stand Monica Rial and Hilary Haag...well I can't stand most English VAs because they can't match the Japanese voices in pitch and tone.

ADV had a huge Labor Day anime sale, and I spent $300 on about 64 dvds.

I recommend seeing FFVII Last Order and Advent Children.

such a lovely night.

I've found that after watching Sailor Moon, R, S, the movies, and now a third of the way through Super S, that it gets almost sickening because the same thing happens in every episode...but maybe part of it is due to the fact that they were the only things I watched for half a month or so.

I'm rewatching GTO for the second time, and it has become one of my top 5 favorites out of all that I've seen/own.

Najica Blitz Tactics is a great anime, but I'd feel uncomfortable watching it with other people out of the sheer amount of panty shots. I'd be hard pressed to find 15 seconds where there isn't a panty shot.

Prétear is just like Sailor Moon, considering it's the same creator.

Princess Nine has a really good story, and it was great up until the last episode...and I was totally disappointed.

Please Teacher is amazing and I absolutely love it. That teacher is HOT.

Serial Experiments Lain is as good as people say it is.

I need DSL to get the last couple released fansubs of BLEACH. The sad thing is, it's a good anime and it's going to become so popular that it's going to be ruined like Naruto and Inuyasha. Of course, I've never really watched Naruto, so I'm just judging by hype I've heard. Pictures from Otakon have shown me that BLEACH is definitely catching on...and the shinigami costumes are so easy to do.

My collection's been slowing down since I need to buy parts to finish my computer.

PS. Johnstown is a 3 1/2 hour drive for me because I took a trip down there to visit my friend who lives in Summerhill.

such a lovely night.

How'd I get here?
I just found this community while searching for a Gunslinger Girl community. I've gone through the first 2 manga/beginning the 3rd and I really like it. I'll get the DVDs in the future for it for sure.

Who'm I?
I'm from Northeast PA, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area if you look on a map. I have a small anime collection that is continuously growing (209 DVDs at the present time) and I just began collecting manga.
Some of my favorite titles are Fruits Basket, Love Hina, Noir, Fushigi Yûgi (Well, all of Yû Watase's work), Azumanga Daioh, Sakura Wars, and X tv (I prefer the series over the movie).

If anyone wants to chat about anime or stuff, you can contact me on AIM: watashinoaiwa or MSN: aoinamida at gmx dot net
